A retired Fife minister who is one of Christian Aid’s longest supporters has celebrated his 100th birthday.
The Rev Douglas Tucker, who comes originally from Swansea, has been involved with the charity since its beginnings in 1945 when it was created to help refugees in Europe after the war.
The D-Day landings veteran, who lives in St Andrews and is a member of St Andrew’s Episcopal Church, has taken part in the Tay Bridge Cross for the past 16 years, raising tens of thousands of pounds for Christian Aid.
In recent years, he has only been able to complete the sponsored cross in a wheelchair and this year his son, eldest granddaughter and great granddaughter were on hand to help.
He has raised more than £35,000 through crossing the bridge and if anyone would like to contribute they should visit the JustGiving page set up by Douglas and his great granddaughter Ellie at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/greatgrandpaandellie.
On Friday he marked his centenary by visiting St Andrew’s Episcopal Church for a service and celebration with 50 or so family and close friends.
