Police investigating the unexplained death of a Kirkcaldy shop worker have charged a man with assault.
The body of Imran Arshed was discovered in a flat in Greenloanings, in the Templehall area of the town, on Tuesday afternoon.
Police have confirmed that a 31-year-old has since been charged with assault, following a search of a property in nearby Alford Avenue, however, they have stressed that the man has not been charged in any way of causing the death of Mr Arshed.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police in Fife have arrested and charged a 31-year-old male with an assault on a 35-year-old man who was subsequently found dead within an address in Greenloanings, Kirkcaldy on Tuesday July 11.
“This death remains unexplained at this time and inquiries are continuing.”
A single police car remains stationed at the entrance to the ground floor flat in Greenloanings, in the Templehall area of the town, after the discovery of Mr Arshed’s body.
The 35-year-old is understood to have only moved to the ground floor flat within the past year, with neighbours having described him as a quiet, private person.
Meanwhile, a police cordon at Alford Avenue has been lifted following activity at a bungalow in the street on Wednesday.
One neighbour said that several officers had been stationed outside of the end terrace house throughout Wednesday while officers conducted door-to-door inquiries.
She added: “They must have arrived at around 8am and left at about 10pm.
“The whole area outside was taped off.
“This is normally a very quiet area and people tend to keep themselves to themselves.”
