Police are investigating a serious sexual assault in Dunfermline, it has been confirmed.
The female victim is receiving specialist support following the shocking incident in the Netherton Broad Street / Moodie Street area of the town early on Sunday.
Officers said enquiries were at an early stage and appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
A large area of grass and trees at the foot of Moodie Street was cordoned off on Sunday and officers were still protecting the scene late into the evening.
One local man said his neighbour had heard shouting or screaming in the early hours of the morning.
“There have been guys with gloves looking about on the ground,” he said.
Another witness said they had seen officers on their hands and knees combing the area.
