A man has suffered “life changing” injuries in an explosion in Pittenweem.
The 20-year-old man was handling combustible materials in a garage when they ignited.
An ambulance and two fire appliances, from Anstruther and Methil, were sent to the scene in Milton Road at around 7.30pm on Thursday.
Fire crews administered first aid and oxygen to the man, who suffered injuries to his hands.
The casualty was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee for treatment.
It is understood emergency services responded to a report of a “firework explosion”.
However, the exact nature of the explosive materials is not known.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in north east Fife are investigating after a man suffered serious injuries when he was handling combustible materials at an address in Pittenweem on Thursday August 3.
“Police and ambulance staff were called to the address in the Milton Road area around 7.30pm.
“A 20-year-old local male was found to be suffering from life changing injuries and was taken to Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.
“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances but the incident appears to be non-suspicious at this time.
“At no time was there a threat to the wider public.”
