A 15-year-old boy has been charged following a huge fire which destroyed a former Fife social club. The teenager was arrested on Thursday, a day after the Denbeath Miners Welfare Institute in Buckhaven went up in flames. Police said he would be reported to the children’s reporter in due course. Officers are following a positive line of enquiry in relation to another suspect. The institute and bowling club had stood on ground between Institution Street and Den Walk for almost a century. It closed in 2012 after running into financial difficulties and locals said the building had become a magnet for anti-social behaviour. A planning application was submitted to Fife Council in March to demolish the building and build 22 affordable homes in its place.
