Fife man tells of horror at Las Vegas shooting that left 50 dead

A Fife man has spoken of the horror that has unfolded at a mass shooting in Las Vegas.

Paul Russell, of Leven, is on holiday in the American city where 50 people have been killed and scores wounded at an open-air music festival at the Mandalay Bay Hotel on the city’s strip.

The horrific incident happened around 5.30am on Monday (10.30pm in America), with witness reports stating hundreds of shots were fired. Parts of the area were shut down as armed police arrived at the scene of the shootings, which took place at the Route 91 Harvest festival.

Posting on social media, Mr Russell said he was over in Las Vegas for the third time but had “never seen the Strip so deserted.”

“Gunmen went wild on the strip – staying indoors as they’ve not been caught,” he said on Twitter.

“Multiple deaths – get me home!”

The Fife man had said he was in Las Vegas playing roulette as part of a holiday.

Some flights have been diverted from Las Vegas McCarran airport as a result of the attack.
