A popular children’s play park in Dunfermline has been targeted by arsonists.
Equipment at the park in The Glen has been cordoned off following the blaze on Tuesday evening, which caused tens of thousands of pounds worth of damage.
Police are investigating what they called a reckless “act of destruction”.
The alarm was raised at around 7.20pm and firefighters rushed to the Pittencrieff Park play area to extinguish the flames.
Anyone with information about the incident was urged to contact police.
Inspector Ian Flynn, of Dunfermline Police Station, said: “We are appealing for information after a deliberate fire was started within The Glen sometime during the evening of Tuesday November 7.
“As a result of this incident several pieces of children’s play apparatus within the park were damaged, costing tens of thousands of pounds to replace.
“This has been a reckless and needless act of destruction that has taken the much-used play equipment out of action for the local community.”
Anyone with information can contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
