A Dunfermline club has called time after four decades as a leading light in the town’s nightlife.
Johnson’s Nightclub began life as a haven for revellers at the start of the 1980s and continued through the 90s into the 21st century.
However, those behind the Pilmuir Street venue nicknamed Jiggies have decided to call it a day to follow other pursuits.
A message posted on Facebook read: “Well everyone, after 37 wonderful years, time has been called.
“No one can go on forever and Alfred and his family have decided that there is a whole world out there that they want to carry on exploring whilst they have their health and happiness.
“There are so many great memories and a many amazing people to thank for all gifts they have given us.
“We’ve had a blast and now we just feel really grateful that we lived through it with all of you who have worked here with dedication, the musicians who have given us so many wonderful memories and especially you, our beautiful customers who, over a few generations danced, loved and supported each other and us too.”
Hundreds of customers who hit its dance floor and propped up its bar over the years shared fond memories of the nightspot, which one claimed was Dunfermline’s Hacienda.
Among those who reacted to the announcement on social media was one former customer who proposed in the venue.
Kenny Brogan wrote: “End of an era. Great nights in the 80s watching Devine and King plus every single weekend starting in the main bar then lounge then nightclub.
“And let’s not forget my wedding proposal on Valentine’s Day 27 years ago.”
