Theft of a motability scooter from a garden in Glenrothes has been branded despicable.
The vehicle was taken from the rear of a house in the town’s Macedonia on Monday afternoon.
Its owner relies on the motorised scooter for getting around.
Police have appealed for witnesses to the crime.
Entry was gained to the garden of a property in Thornhill Court and the scooter taken sometime between 2pm and 4pm.
Sergeant Kirk Donnelly, of Glenrothes Police Station, said: “This is a despicable act which directly impacts on the owner who utilises the scooter as their core method of transport.
“I ask that anyone who saw any suspicious behaviour in the area on Monday afternoon, or who has seen the scooter since, contacts us as soon as possible.”
He also urged the public to watch out for scooters matching the description, being mindful that the registration plate could have been removed or altered.
He said: “Equally anyone who knows who may be responsible for this theft is asked to contact police immediately.”
The scooter is a Shoprider Motability Vehicle with the registration plate Q589 UBA.
It has distinctive yellow arrows pointing upwards on the steering column.
