Several sneak in thefts have been reported in St Andrews in recent days, police have revealed.
Officers are investigating a number of similar crimes throughout the Fife town over the past three days and have urged residents to remain vigilant and keep their properties secure.
Houses that are unlocked in the evening have been targeted, and police say the people thought to be responsible appear to be “opportunists who are trying doors and gaining entry through the night”.
Community Sergeant Sharon Holmes said: “Please ensure that you lock your door at night and when you leave the house and take precautions such as leaving a light on to prevent you becoming a victim of this crime.
“We are following a positive line of inquiry in relation to these incidents however I am asking St Andrews residents to make sure they lock their doors overnight and be vigilant.
“Anyone who sees anything suspicious is asked to please call 101 or if a crime is ongoing, 999.”
