A man feared to have gone into the water at Methil Dock has been found safe and well.
Searches involving a helicopter and Coastguard and lifeboat crews were launched after concerns were raised about a person in a distressed state on Ajax Way on Wednesday evening.
Police Scotland confirmed that the man they were looking for had been traced at around 10am on Friday in the East Wemyss area, and thanked the public for their response to an appeal for help.
The alarm was raised after the man appeared to move towards the water and an appeal was issued to the public for help in establishing his whereabouts.
A search of the docks, waters and coastline from West Wemyss to Largo began on Wednesday and resumed on Thursday.
Officers from Police Scotland were aided by Coastguard rescue teams from Leven, St Andrews and Kinghorn and Kinghorn RNLI.
A Police Scotland helicopter carried out a sea-based search around Buckhaven and Methil for three hours on Wednesday evening.
