Two Fife couples were given the most special of starts to 2018 as they welcomed new additions to their families.
Baby Aiden Cheuk arrived in the world at Kirkcaldy’s Victoria Hospital just 13 minutes after the bells had sounded to herald the start of the new year.
A brother to sister Tiffany, 11, and brother Oscar, 9, he was born weighing 7lbs 10oz after arriving two weeks early.
Father Louis said that he and his wife Sisi Kwok, who live in Glenrothes, were “very happy” with their latest arrival.
Meanwhile, it was also a joyous start to the year for Kirkcaldy couple Keri Fargie and her husband Stuart.
The couple’s first child Emilie arrived shortly after 8am yesterday with Keri having endured a 36 hour labour.
Keri, 27, said that the couple was “over the moon” with their baby daughter, who was born weighing 9lbs.
However, following the protracted labour, Stuart, 29, joked: “ I should have got some sleep.”
In Dundee, staff at Ninewells Hospital welcomed a number of new arrivals on the first day of 2018, with at least five delivered on New Year’s Day.
The first to arrive was Nico John Watson, who entered the world nine days before his due date at 1.50am, weighing 6lb and 6oz.
His parents Ashley Dyer and Ross Watson, 27 already have a two-year-old daughter Tillie.
Ashley said: “Tillie just keeps saying she wants to see the baby.”
The couple, who live in Whitfield, chose Nico’s middle name in honour of Ross’ grandfather, who died in September.
One of the first to arrive in Scotland was a baby boy in the NHS Grampian area, who was born 10 seconds after midnight on New Year’s Day.
Parents Craig Ferguson and Amy Coull welcomed Harry Ferguson into the world at Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin.
He weighed 9lb 8oz.
The first arrival in Perth and Kinross came at 9.21am.
Nikki and Andrew Dunn, from Bridge of Earn, welcomed baby girl Eve one day early.
Weighing 7lb, Eve is the couple’s first child.
IT worker Andrew, 31, said: “She was due to the arrive on the 2nd, but we’ve been on tenterhooks all week.”
Perth College worker Nikki, 31, praised staff at the city’s community maternity unit.
