Four men have been injured after being struck by a car in St Andrews.
Eye-witnesses said they believed the Volkswagen Golf mounted the pavement outside Bonkers gift shop on the corner of Market Street and Church Street and collided with the group of pedestrians.
Three ambulances were on the scene and the men are being treated for minor leg and back injuries.
The area has been closed to traffic since the incident at 11.45am.
One witness said the accident appeared to involve a number of Asian visitors, who had been taken away in ambulances.
He said at least 15 police officers were present.
Stagecoach said buses would be missing out the town centre and would be diverted via North Street for the time being.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in Fife are investigating following a one-car road traffic collision in Church Street, St Andrews.
“Police and emergency services are currently in attendance.
“The four pedestrians sustained minor leg leg and back injuries and are currently receiving treatment.”
Church Street is expected to remain closed for some time and members of the public have been thanked for their patience.
Anyone with information is asked to contact officers at Fife’s road policing unit on 101, quoting incident number 1074 of January 12.
