Police are probing an incident which left a man lying seriously injured in a Kirkcaldy street.
The 48-year-old is believed to have plunged from the balcony of a second floor flat.
He was discovered in the early hours of Saturday morning and rushed to hospital.
The block of flats in Winifred Crescent, in the Sauchenbush area of the town, was cordoned off as police launched an investigation.
Officers were still at the scene on Wednesday morning carrying out door-to-door inquiries as they attempted to piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident.
They have issued an appeal to the public for information.
Residents of neighbouring flats were in the dark about what had happened.
One said: “The first I knew about it was when I saw the police on Monday. They’ve been at the door but they wouldn’t say what it was.”
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Police in Fife are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding a 48-year-old man being found seriously injured in Winifred Crescent, Kirkcaldy, around 3am on Saturday, January 13.
“Anyone who may have information which can help, and has not yet spoken to officers, is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 and quote incident number 0594.”
