A body has been found in the search for a missing Fife man, police have confirmed.
The tragic discovery was made at 10.15am on Sunday as officers continued the hunt for John Keir from Methil.
Police were called to the Dumbarnie Links area where the body of a man was recovered from the water.
Formal identification has yet to take place but Mr Keir’s family has been informed.
The death is being treated as unexplained pending further inquiries and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
Mr Keir, 46, had not been seen since leaving Simon Crescent, Methilhill, at 1pm on Saturday.
As concern grew for his welfare, police revealed he had a known medical condition which required medication.
A helicopter and the coastguard joined the search on Saturday night, spending some time combing the Levenmouth coastline for signs of the missing man, who was believed to be either on foot or using public transport.
