A dog walker had to be rescued after getting stuck on a cliff side while trying to rescue his dog.
The westie got into difficulty in the Brae Head area, east of Pittenweem, on Monday afternoon.
Three separate Coastguard teams were scrambled to the cliff head to rescue the pair.
A spokeswoman for HM Coastguard said: “St Andrews, Leven and Kinghorn coastal rescue teams, as well as Anstruther inshore lifeboat, were called to an area east of Pittenweem at around 2.30pm.
“They rescued a person who had become stuck on cliffs while attempting to rescue their dog. The dog had gone over the cliff and the owner had gone down after them and got stuck.
“They were both recovered to the top of the cliff using ropes. Both are safe and well.”
Kinghorn Coastguard posted on their Facebook page: “Paged to assist Leven and St Andrews coastguard teams, with the rescue of a male and a small dog from cliffs in the Brae Head area of Pittenweem.
“Cliff rescue equipment set up and a cliff rescue technician was deployed to retrieve the dog and his grateful owner back to the cliff top, with Anstruther lifeboat crew looking on, providing cover from the bottom in case anything went wrong.
“A textbook rescue with a happy ending for all involved. “
