A Dunfermline woman who was involved in an online rugby tickets rip-off has been sentenced.
The victims thought they were buying tickets for rugby international matches in response to adverts on Gumtree but never received them.
The money went into the bank account of Cara Martin, 27, of Leishman Drive.
At Dunfermline Sheriff Court, she admitted that between February 2 and March 2, 2015, she acquired and possessed the proceeds of fraud.
Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf previously told the court: “The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau was alerted by several reports from people in England.”
Ms Yousaf added: “She said it was only when she was contacted by the bank that she realised what was going on and she said it was a friend who put the ads on Gumtree. She wouldn’t name the friend.”
The court was told that a total of £1,521 was paid for tickets which never arrived.
Sheriff Craig McSherry said there had been a letter sent from someone who had paid £160 for rugby tickets he had not received and who was looking for compensation.
The sheriff ordered Martin to complete 150 hours of unpaid work and pay £160 compensation.
