This is the moment thundersnow struck Fife as the “Beast from the East” battered the region.
Kevin Moody captured this footage of thunder and lightning above Glenrothes on Wednesday at about 10.10pm.
The phenomenon took place whilst the Kingdom was in the grip of an “exceptionally rare” Met Office red warning, which was eventually lifted at 10am on Thursday.
The thunder and lightning is said to have been accompanied by blizzards of snow.
Fife was hit by a huge amount of snowfall from Wednesday into Thursday morning with a number of roads closed due to the conditions.
Many people were forced to abandon their cars. Stagecoach bus services have also been cancelled across Fife.
Hundreds of schools across Scotland have been closed due to the conditions.
An amber warning of snow will remain in place across almost all of Tayside and Fife until Friday morning with “frequent and heavy snow showers” expected to continue.
This alert was put in place on Wednesday morning and warned of more than 1ft of the white stuff landing in some regions under the affected area.
The term “thundersnow” is used to describe heavy snowfall during a storm.
