Dozens of Fife school children are stuck at activity centres in various parts of Scotland.
Pupils have been unable to return home from trips as the unrelenting blizzard conditions make travelling by road too hazardous to contemplate.
Among them are 26 youngsters and teachers from Kinghorn Primary, who have spent the week in a centre near Pitlochry.
While they have still managed to enjoy the great outdoors, despite the weather, they are now snowed in with no indication of when they will be able to leave.
Fife Council has issued an assurance that all children are safe and are being looked after and arrangements are being made to get them home as soon as possible.
Neil Finnie, senior compliance officer, said: “We are working with individual schools, the activity centres and transport providers on a case by case basis to work out the safest and most appropriate time for the children to travel home.
“This may mean that the original return times will change.
“Meanwhile, the children are being well cared for and are safe and warm.
“Parents and carers are receiving regular updates through their schools and they will be informed as soon as possible when arrangements are confirmed.”
