A senior NHS Fife boss has been suspended on full pay since last year.
Professor Scott McLean, who is the chief operating officer in charge of acute services, has not been behind his desk since last November.
The 42-year-old has been suspended while an investigation is carried out into alleged misconduct.
Mystery shrouds the allegations made against Mr McLean.
NHS Fife made no comment other than issuing a statement from director of workforce Barbara Anne Nelson, who said: “NHS Fife has a legal responsibility to protect the privacy of its employees, and is therefore, unable to comment on matters relating to individual staff members, past or present.”
Mr McLean graduated from Abertay University in 1995.
The Stirling man worked as a nurse at Victoria Hospital and also for NHS Lothian.
Before returning to NHS Fife he had spells working in Ireland and as director of nursing and governance for Barts Health NHS Trust in London.
While Mr McLean is suspended his position is being filled by Jann Gardner, director of planning and strategic partnerships.
