A prestigious national awards ceremony recognising the country’s most outstanding young people is to be hosted in Fife.
Junior Chamber International, an organisation aimed at empowering 18 to 40-year-olds to develop as leaders, will host its Ten Outstanding Young Persons awards at the Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum in Dunfermline on May 26.
The venue has been chosen to mark Scotland’s year of young people.
The awards are now in their 35th year of recognising and honouring young people who have excelled in their chosen field.
Previous Scottish nominees include Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow, founder of Scottish International Relief; Olivia Richmond Giles, a quadruple amputee who started the charity 500 Miles which aims to support amputees, principally in Malawi and Zambia; and Dame Evelyn Glennie, an extraordinary world-leading solo percussionist.
Organisers are now looking for nominations from across the country of young men and women aged between 18 and 40.
The Scottish nominees will then be submitted to JCI International for the chance to represent Scotland at the global awards in India in November.
Past global winners have included martial arts legend Jackie Chan, actress Michelle Yeoh and Zimbabwean gender activist Betty Makoni.
JCI Scotland president Danielle Grieve said: “We are thrilled to be recognising ten outstanding young people during Scotland’s year of young people at the historic birthplace of Andrew Carnegie in Dunfermline
“As national president, it is amazing to see members of JCI Scotland working together on a project like this, developing their skills and helping raise the profile of outstanding things that young people are achieving to create positive change in our country.”
Noral Rundell, chief executive of the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust, added: “We are delighted to be welcoming the winners of the Outstanding Young Person’s Awards of 2018 to the Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum in Dunfermline.
“Andrew Carnegie would have been proud to know that the place of his birth was being put to such inspiring use in recognising these extraordinary individuals.”
Nominations are open until April 10 and details of the categories and how to enter can be found online at www.jciscotland.org.uk/toyp-2018.
