A Fife neighbourhood was locked down by police, amid reports a resident had threatened to set fire to a house.
Emergency services were scrambled to Rossend Terrace, Burtisland, on Friday afternoon.
Part of the street was cordoned off, and police officers in protective riot gear were spotted in the area.
Fire crews and ambulance teams were also in attendance.
Neighbours said the incident had been ongoing for several hours. One local said a man had barricaded himself in one of the properties and told police he would “burn it down” if they tried to gain access.
A relative was understood to have gone to the scene to help with negotiations.
Police Scotland confirmed an incident was under way, but refused to share any details. They declined to comment on reports the alleged stand-off ended before 10pm and a man was in custody.
