They’re some of the cutest critters around, but you wouldn’t be such a fan of meerkats if you were a cricket.
This video shows four-year-old Whopper, who lives at St Andrews Aquarium, displaying his impressive hunting skills by catching the live insect inside a tunnel.
One of the centre’s staff managed to catch the action shot on film and shared it online where it quickly racked up more than 900 views.
The somewhat gruesome clip shows Whopper chewing off the cricket’s head before quickly backing away down the tube.
The aquarium first introduced a pair of meerkats in 2011 after they were rejected by their gang in the Cotswolds.
The troop has quickly expanded over the years and have become a firm favourite of visitors to the popular tourist attraction.
Managing director John Mace said: “The live crickets are a fantastic source of enrichment for the meerkats.
“We place them around their enclosure which allows them to scavenge like they would in the wild.”
