What a to doo!
To be frank, eagles don’t often come to the aid of pigeons.
More than likely they’d become a tasty snack.
But in this case an eagle brought a bewildered bird back into the bosom of its relieved family.
The tail started when the racing pigeon, now nicknamed Fife Frank, had his feathers ruffled as he was blown off course during the Berwick Old Bird race.
The year-old bird continued to fly for more than 100 miles, ending up in Cupar.
With Frank missing in action far from his Lanarkshire home, owner Scott McArdle, who has 50 birds, then got a call from the Scottish Homing Union saying a Mr Wallace had found his “priceless” bird.
“As soon as we found out about his whereabouts we called Eagle Couriers with the hope that they would be able to bring him home safe and sound.
“To get our pigeon back the same day as losing him meant so much to us.”
Bathgate-based Eagle Couriers has picked up and delivered a number of different types of birds over the years, including eagles and parrots.
However, this is the first time that the company has transported a stranded racing pigeon back to its owners.
Co-director Fiona Deas said: “We have come across some unusual deliveries during our time, but it’s the ones like this that you remember.
“He is such a friendly little bird and clearly made an impression with our drivers – they even gave him the nickname Fife Frank.”
