Footballers Stacey Penman and Tyler Rattray have spoken of the heartache of cancer as they prepare for an after dark fundraiser.
The Raith Rovers Ladies and Girls Football Club midfielder and defender will lead the Twilight Walk in Glenrothes for Maggie’s Fife on Saturday.
Stacey and Tyler have lost people close to them to the disease and are encouraging others affected to sign up for the event, which has three routes of one, five or 10 miles.
Supporting the Maggie’s Fife cancer care centre in Kirkcaldy was a simple choice for Stacey.
She said: “Having supported my partner through a difficult time with the care and loss of her father I saw first-hand the impact the caring and compassion that Maggie’s centre had to offer.
“They are so very understanding and supportive during the most difficult times in people’s lives both for the person with cancer and their nearest and dearest.
“They must be acknowledged for the fantastic work they do and have the hero’s recognition that the staff so deserve.
“I’d like to personally thank them for all they have done and continue to do for so many people in and around Fife.”
Tyler said: “I’m supporting Maggie’s because they supported me immensely when my gran was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
“Maggie’s helped my gran feel more comfortable and able to cope after being diagnosed.
“Although Maggie’s was there for my gran they were also there for my family.
“With me being young they helped me understand what cancer was and how I could help my gran.
“I have taken part in the Twilight Walk for years and am looking forward to walking this great community event once again. I hope locals will join me.”
Jackie Gray, of the Twilight Walk committee, said the support offered by Stacey and Tyler was amazing and added: “The committee and I are so honoured that we have asked them to start the walk this year.”
