An elderly couple’s afternoon out in their car turned sour when their car careered into a burn in Dunfermline.
Emergency services were called to St Leonards Street at around 12.15pm following a report of a white Fiat 500 in the watercourse near the Asda supermarket.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said two people were helped from the vehicle to a place of safety where they were checked over by paramedics as a precaution.
It is understood neither of the car’s occupants required subsequent medical treatment.
Fire engines from Dunfermline and a specialist water rescue unit from Edinburgh were among the resources mobilised by the fire service.
A recovery vehicle was also called to drag the submerged Fiat out of the burn a couple of hours later.
