A new care village, boasting its own hair salon, sensory garden and cafe in addition to state-of-the-art accommodation, has been officially opened in Lumphinnans.
Lindsay House, the third centre of its type to be provided by Fife Council, replaces the ageing Jenny Gray House in Lochgelly and Valley House, Cowdenbeath.
The aim is to provide a new model of care for older people, with care and living facilities on one site.
It includes a 60-bed home providing long-term care, short-stay accommodation and day care, 30 extra care housing units, a community drop-in area and a hairdressers.
There is also a community cafe and a cinema room for residents, as well as the sensory garden.
A similar care village is due to open in Glenrothes next year. Together, the two developments make up a £22 million investment in local communities.
The first centre opened in Kirkcaldy in 2014.
Fife Council said the care villages were setting a new standard in care, allowing integrated working between colleagues in health and social care and housing.
Councillor David Alexander, co-leader of Fife Council, gave the opening speech.
He said: “It was a great privilege to be part of the opening celebration of this fantastic state-of-the-art facility.
“The care home combined with the extra care housing will provide the highest standard of care and a sense of community for residents, tenants and staff.
“The successful completion of the Kirkcaldy and Lumphinnans care villages and the Glenrothes care village, due for completion in early 2019, will bring many positive benefits to residents, tenants and their communities.”
Co-leader David Ross added: “The residents of Valley House and Jenny Gray House received excellent care and both had a good reputation.
“Lindsay House will build on this as the new facilities will provide an environment which will enhance the level of support already provided for the residents.”
May Somerville, a tenant in one of the extra care flats, said she was thrilled with her new home.
“I couldn’t have picked a better place,” she said.
“Everyone is so friendly and helpful.”
