A teenager fatally injured in a road accident near Crossgates has now been identified.
Police say they now know the name of the victim, who was involved in a collision with a taxi while walking on the B925 on Saturday night.
They said the victim’s identity would not be revealed until all next of kin have been informed but it is understood he was a boy in his mid-teens.
He had not been carrying any identification when the accident happened and police put out a public appeal to find out who he was.
Officers are now appealing for witnesses to get in touch as they investigate the incident, which happened on the stretch of road between Crossgates and Mossmorran at around 11.45pm.
The deceased was involved in a collision with a Renault Trafic people carrier and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neither the driver nor any of the passengers on the Renault MPV involved in the accident were injured.
The road was closed for around six hours as officers completed an examination of the crash site.
Police Scotland is now appealing for anyone who witnessed the accident to contact officers in Glenrothes on the 101 number, quoting the reference number 4806 of June 16.
