Shocked locals did not know if the person in the water had died.
A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed on Saturday that they were called to the reservoir at 6.23pm on Friday following a report of a man in the water.
But despite earlier reports that the emergency services didn’t rush to resuscitate the man, a couple living nearby said the efforts to save the man had been heroic.
Fiona and Michael Audsley, who live in a house overlooking the beauty spot, said the man was taken from the water and the ambulance and fire crews spent nearly 30 minutes attempting to revive him.
Wearing an oxygen mask, he was then taken away on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance which whisked him off.
The couple said it was a “fantastic team” who worked very hard to revive the man and that they wanted his family to know everything possible was done to help him.
