Just as the rain fell at Carnoustie, organisers of The Open’s inaugural after party whetted the appetite for those in search of warm and sunnier climes.
Luxury concierge service VivereXO and the Hamilton Grand in St Andrews have teamed up to host the first ever Open After Party on Sunday, which will start immediately after the last putt has been holed in the 147th Open Championship.
The exclusive party for 500 guests has attracted what organisers have described as “high net worth individuals who have a love of golf and enjoy a good party”.
With that in mind, guests at Sunday’s lavish bash will be in with a chance to win a £100,000 holiday to the exclusive island Koh Rang Noi in Phuket, Thailand.
The party will be located next to a reservoir where two floating greens have been specially created, and guests will be challenged to get a hole in one in the green which has been modelled after the 18th hole of Wisconsin’s Whistling Straits, home of the 2020 Ryder Cup.
To take part, golfers will pay an as yet undisclosed fee, which is part of the fundraising to raise money for local lad Garvie Winter who needs £95,000 to afford to try a revolutionary treatment known as Car T-cell therapy available in the US or Italy.
Traditional chemotherapy has not been successful in treating Garvie’s leukaemia.
John Sutherland, director of lifestyle and concierge for the ASA Group which manages bookings for Koh Rang Noi, said: “What a great way to raise funds for Garvie and I’m sure it will be a popular attraction as the professionals and amateurs alike compete for the coveted luxury holiday prize.”
