A body found in Dumfries and Galloway is believed to be missing Cowdenbeath man Steven Cunningham.
Mr Cunningham, 48, had been missing for 10 days and had not made contact with friends or family.
Police Scotland said formal identification had yet to take place, but Mr Cunningham’s family had been informed.
The tragic discovery was made by a member of the public in Castle Douglas on Friday.
The death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
Worried relatives had issued a statement through police urging Mr Cunningham to get in touch.
He was reported missing on Thursday, July 12. The next day a gun metal grey Vauxhall Astra he has access to was seen driving northbound on the M6 near Penrith at around 1.25pm.
