A 55-year-old man has been arrested and charged with road traffic offences in relation to an accident on the M90 near Kelty.
One person in the three car collision has also been taken to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy.
Their injuries are serious, but not thought to be life threatening.
Long delays built up for southbound motorists following the accident on Saturday afternoon.
The accident blocked one carriageway while the second lane was already closed because of roadworks.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said emergency services had been alerted to the three car road traffic collision on the southbound carriageway at 12.30pm.
“One person was taken to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy.
“Their injuries are believed to be serious.”
He added a 55-year-old man has been arrested and charged with road traffic offences.
