A Fife mum says she was “blown away” by the contents of Scotland’s Baby Boxes, as the scheme celebrates its first year.
An average of 1,000 baby boxes per week have been delivered to parents of newborns in the first year of the programme.
The Scottish Government said 52,065 baby boxes have been gifted to date, with an 85% uptake by parents.
The latest survey showed 100% satisfaction with the box, which contains items including clothing, a comforter toy and a play mat, the government said.
Other gifts include books, a towel and a sling carrier, and the box itself can be used as a sleeping space for newborns.
Katie Mitchell, 21, from Methil, and kids Amelia (20 months) and baby Emily (10 months) are among those to have benefited so far.
Katie said: “The box was so much bigger than I expected it to be and I was blown away by everything that was included. The clothes were so cute and I loved the bright colours – we even brought Emily home from hospital in one of the sleep suits.
“There were a couple of items that were particularly useful, the bath thermometer being one of them. With my eldest, I used my hand or elbow to test the temperature of the water and was completely shocked to learn that what I thought was a warm and comfortable temperature was actually too hot for a baby.”
She added: “I’ve recommended the box to a few of my friends who have a newborn on the way – it really is an amazing gift to receive and a great welcome for any little one. Receiving the box opened my eyes to exactly what essentials I would need and helped me to prepare for baby Emily’s arrival. “
