A van narrowly missed pedestrians when it veered off the road and crashed into a wall outside a church in Fife on Wednesday evening.
The one-vehicle accident happened at the corner of Church Street and Randolph Street in Buckhaven at around 5.45pm.
A man who was walking his dog reportedly narrowly avoided being hit before chasing the driver down the street following the crash.
The driver is believed to have lost control of the Citroen before slamming into a low wall which borders Buckhaven & Wemyss Parish Church.
A spokesperson for the Fife division of Police Scotland said three police vehicles, as well as several officers on foot, attended the incident.
The driver’s injuries are unknown.
An eyewitness said the driver almost killed someone on the pavement.
He said: “The van came shooting round the bank corner into Randolph Street from the West High Street direction.
“It almost hit a man with a dog. He could have been killed.
“It then smashed into the wall and the driver got out and ran away.
“The other man was livid and chased him.
“The police had either been chasing him or were looking for someone as they were there within seconds.
He added: “They got the boy really quickly.
“It was all really hostile.
“There were 6 or 7 police cars and an ambulance.”
