A violent thug who viciously attacked two women he was dating at the same time has been jailed.
Steven Rough was branded “a significant danger to women” during his sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.
The 30-year-old, formerly of Earl Street in Glasgow, was jailed for 24 months after being found guilty of five charges following a trial.
Rough claimed he carried out the attacks because of his “intense and problematic personal life”.
A jury found him guilty of assaulting both women, one of whom was pregnant at the time, on a number of occasions in the West Fife area between June 2016 and July 2017.
They were told Rough had been in a relationship with both women at the same time and had fathered children with both.
His secrets-and-lies lifestyle led to one of the women believing he was a policeman.
She later discovered he was in fact a joiner but had played the part of a policeman as an extra in the TV series River City.
Defence solicitor Gordon Martin told the court Rough had struggled to deal with the death of a cousin who died in a car accident in June 2017.
Mr Martin said: “His mother tells me that his cousin was someone who was the same age as Mr Rough and that they were more like brothers than cousins.
“He understands that he has has to accept that people have to deal with many problems in their lives whether it be health problems or bereavements.”
He added that his client had an “intense and problematic personal life albeit of his own making” but that one of his victims hoped to reconcile their relationship.
However, Sheriff Simon Collins QC said: “These offences were committed against two of your former partners. You deceived them and you abused them.
“You are a significant danger to woman and I am not persuaded that there is any other alternative to custody.”
Rough’s sentence was backdated to July 11 when he was remanded in custody.
