A drink driver who was more than three times over the limit when she crashed into a field full of cows has been banned from the roads.
Demi Gray appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court where she admitted getting behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol on July 29.
A breath test revealed the Kinghorn resident had 67 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – more than three times the legal limit.
The 23-year-old had drunk a bottle and half of wine the night before the crash and thought she would be okay to drive the following morning
However, as she travelled along the Jawbanes Road to take her dog for a walk at a local loch, her Vauxhall Corsa careered through a fence and into a field.
She was rumbled by a local farmer who came to check on his cattle and found a car and a strange woman smelling of drink in their midst.
Depute fiscal Sarah Lumsden told the court: “In the early hours of of the morning on Sunday July 29, the witness was called by a neighbouring farmer to say that there was a vehicle in his field.
“There were concerns that his cattle might escape given the damage that had been caused to the fence.
“The witness went to the scene and saw a Vauxhall Corsa in the the field and the accused in the vehicle.
“There was concern from the witness that the accused was under the influence of alcohol as he could smell it on her and he called the police.”
Defence solicitor Kerr Sneddon said his client “thought she would be okay to drive” but the message had “sunk in” after she was summoned to court.
Sheriff Christopher Shead said the reading was too high for him to impose a fine.
He said: “This is the kind of offence which is sometimes dealt with surprisingly leniently by the court.
“What I propose to do is impose a community payback order requiring you to perform 70 hours of unpaid work within six months.”
He disqualified Gray from driving for 16 months but said she could take part in the Drink Driver Rehabilitation programme which would knock four months off the ban.
