A peaceful rally will be held in Edinburgh next week as the family of Sheku Bayoh learn the outcome of a criminal probe into his death.
Supporters will gather outside the Crown Office on Chambers Street on Wednesday morning in solidarity with the Bayoh family.
The Kirkcaldy man’s relatives and their lawyer Aamer Anwar are due to meet the Lord Advocate for an update on an investigation into the role of police officers in the 31-year-old’s death.
A Sunday newspaper reported no criminal proceedings were being brought against officers but Mr Anwar said there had been no definitive decision by the Crown.
The Justice for Sheku Bayoh Rally is being organised by community groups including Scotland Against Criminalising Communities (SACC) and the Muslim Women’s Association of Edinburgh.
They said: “Our presence will be of great importance to morale and we urge everyone who can to try and get along to Chambers Street that morning.”
Mr Bayoh died while being restrained by up to nine officers on a Kirkcaldy street on May 3 2015.
Police had been responding to reports of a man armed with a knife but have been accused of mishandling the investigation.
