A major police investigation has been launched following a double death in Glenrothes.
The bodies of a man and a woman were found in a flat in the Forres Drive area of Tanshall on Thursday evening.
One of the dead has been named locally as 48-year-old Thomas ‘Tam’ Meechan. The other was a 37-year-old woman.
The deaths are currently being treated as unexplained and there is a heavy police presence in the area.
The force say a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
Father-of-five Mr Meechan was found by a neighbour at around 6pm on Thursday.
Two friends have laid flowers and a Celtic shirt close to the police cordon which remains in place.
The note said: “Rip Tam ur wi the angels now – Andy and Matty.”
A message on the football strip read: “R.I.P Tam you be missed love from big Andy R.”

Scenes of crime officers arrived at the flat at around 12pm and officers remained there on Friday morning.

Police Scotland said they were in the early stages of an investigation.
They said the two deceased had been found unresponsive within the flat and were declared dead at the scene.
On Friday afternoon Detective Chief Inspector Scott Cunningham of Fife Division said: “The families of the man and woman have been informed and will be kept fully updated as our enquiries progress.
“We understand the local community will have questions and concerns and I want to reassure people that we’re doing all we can to establish the circumstances surrounding their deaths.”
A further statement from the force read: “Police in Fife are in the early stages of an investigation into the deaths of two people in Glenrothes.
“Officers were called to a house in the Forres Drive area shortly after 6pm on Thursday, October 4, by the Scottish Ambulance Service.
“A 48-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman had been found unresponsive within the property, and were pronounced dead at the scene.
“The deaths are currently being treated as unexplained pending further inquiries, and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
Anyone with information relevant to the investigation is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2867 of October 4, or speak to an officer in the area as soon as possible.
