Wormit Hedgehog Care Centre had been warned to expect two very small new residents — but when they arrived, they were even tinier than billed.
This precious pair are being helped to full health by hedgehog hero Sandy Boyd.
He said he was told on the phone that they were “around 6 inches by 4 inches and looked big enough to hibernate”. However, after they arrived at the centre, he realised the two animals were even smaller.
He said: “By this time of the year they should be at least 650 grams for a chance to get through the winter and both together only weigh 448 grams.
“The larger is a male and he weighs 292g and the small female is 156g.
“At the moment I have 15 in care but that will change before the end of the year. Hopefully that will increase as in the past week, three died through various problems.”
