A bus smashed into the garden of a house in Anstruther in a collision also involving a van and three cars.
The single-decker bus came to rest in the garden of Beaumont Lodge B&B in Pittenweem Road while the Transit van was left perched on the debris of another wall.
Fire crews treated a man, believed to be the bus driver, with oxygen therapy.
It is understood the bus driver was taken to hospital but no one else was hurt.
He was transferred to hospital by ambulance for further checks.
The road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident, which occurred around 6.30pm on Friday.
Police, firefighters and the ambulance service rushed to the scene and were aided by a local doctor in tending to those involved.
Stewart Lauder, whose friend was on the X60 Stagecoach bus involved, said the bus crashed into the van then swerved into the opposite side of the road.
He said: “It was close, luckily it did not hit the house but unfortunately three vehicles have been written off.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said that no one had been seriously hurt and there was no damage to nearby houses.
