Trainspotting and Slumdog Millionaire director Boyle’s initiative involved portraits of World War I heroes being drawn into the sands of beaches across the country before being washed away by the tide.
The St Andrews artwork depicted Dr Elsie Inglis, an innovative Scottish doctor, suffragist, and founder of the Scottish Women’s Hospitals for Foreign Services – which provided nurses, doctors, ambulance drivers, cooks and orderlies during the Great War.
Alongside designs by beach artists Sand in Your Eye, members of the public were able to join in by creating silhouettes of people on the shore.
Pages of the Sea also took place at St Ninian’s Isle beach in Shetland, Scapa beach in Orkney, Ayr Beach, Roseisle beach on the Moray Firth and Culla Bay beach on Benbecula.
