Emergency services were called to the scene near Dysart Harbour at around 1.55pm on Thursday after receiving a call from a member of the public.
The 54-year-old man was tragically pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics from the Scottish Ambulance Service.
Kinghorn RNLI lifeboat was launched but was stood down a short time later.
One resident, who wished not to be named, said: “There’s a lot of police activity around the harbour area.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police in Fife responded along with other emergency services to the Dysart Harbour area at around 1.55pm on Thursday November 22 following a report that a man had fallen from the cliff.
“Despite the best efforts of the Scottish Ambulance Service, the 54-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Inquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident are ongoing.”
