“No evidence of criminality” after Fife man found seriously injured

Dante Darko was found seriously injured on a Lochgelly Street.
Dante Darko was found seriously injured on a Lochgelly Street.

Police probing the discovery of a man who was found badly injured on a Fife street have confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances.

The 23-year-old, named locally as Dante Darko, was discovered in the early hours of October 28 having suffered a serious head injury on Dundas Street in Lochgelly.

He was rushed to the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh where he was described as being in a critical condition and unconscious.

An extensive police investigation was launched and officers appealed for witnesses to come forward as they scoured CCTV in the local area.

Investigators were keen to speak to the occupants of a dark-coloured SUV, possibly a Nissan Qashqai, which had been in the area around the time of the 3am discovery.

Officers were also hoping to speak to two male pedestrians who were in the Dundas and Main Street areas around half an hour before Mr Darko was found.

Local residents feared the young man, who works at Asda, had been the victim of a serious assault and were keen to help officers with their enquiries.

His worried relatives kept a bedside vigil and issued a plea for information about the circumstances leading to the former nursery worker’s injury.

His sister Danielle Gibson took to social media in a bid to get answers. Sharing the official Police Scotland appeal, she wrote: “This is our brother and we need to know what happened.

“Anyone that has even the smallest of information please come forward.”

Police Scotland have now been able to speak to Mr Darko and have now confirmed that there is no evidence of criminality.

Detective Sergeant Kieran Marsh from Dunfermline CID said: “After extensive inquiries, including expert medical opinion, there is no evidence the man sustained his injuries as a result of a criminal act.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who came forward to assist with the investigation.”
