Kindhearted Fifers have raised more than £3000 to help cover the funeral costs of an Oakley man who was found dead following a missing persons search.
John Bedborough was last seen in the Hillview area of the town on Sunday at around 10.30pm.
When the 45-year-old failed to make contact with friends or family, a police probe was launched to try and find him.
Search teams made up of residents gathered at the Oakley Social Club before scouring the local area in the following days.
A fresh search was launched at around 9.30am on Tuesday morning but John’s body was found in the Porterfield area of the town around 15 minutes later.
It is understood that his death is not being treated as suspicious.
Friends and community members have rallied around John’s heartbroken family, setting up a GoFundMe page to help raise cash to cover any funeral costs.
The initial £1000 target was smashed within hours of the page being set up and a total of £3037 has now been raised by yesterday afternoon.
Step daughter Zoe Montgomery also paid tribute on social media and said: “The whole families heart is broken.
“We have all lost the most genuine amazing man that’s ever been part of anyone’s life.
“He was the best step dad I could ever have asked for and one of my best friends in the world. I’ll never forget any memory that we have together and will cherish them forever.
“The most tragic accident I could have ever thought of and I wish it was all just a dream. I love you more than you’ll ever possibly know.
“Rest in peace my darlin, your forever simply the best.”
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We can confirm that a man’s body has been found during the ongoing search to trace 45-year-old John Bedborough.
“A member of the public reported the discovery within the Porterfield area of Oakley at around 9.45am on Tuesday December 4.
“No formal identification has taken place at this time, however, the family of John Bedborough have been informed and will be kept fully updated.”
