A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following an incident on the main road between Perth and Edinburgh on Thursday morning.

Police were forced to completely close the M90 in both directions between the Crook of Devon and Kelty junctions following concerns for the 64-year-old man at about 9.45am.

Traffic building up from the Kelty junction on the M90.

The road was closed for more than an hour after officers were called to the scene near Kelty.

An air ambulance is also understood to have attended the incident and the man was taken to hospital to be treated for “serious injuries”.

An appeal has been issued for information about the incident.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said:  “Police in Fife were called to Junction four of the M90 following a report of concern for a 64-year-old man.

“The incident happened around 9.45am on Thursday, January 10.  The Scottish Ambulance Service also attended and the man was taken to hospital.

“The M90 was temporarily closed in both directions but has now reopened.  Members of the public are thanked for their patience at this time.

“Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact officers on 101, quoting incident number 772 of January 10.”

Traffic built up at both ends of the road around the closures, which were in force until 11am.
