Thieves raided a Tayport pub just hours after bosses shut it down for good.
Bell Rock Tavern manager Sarah Hill said the Dalgleish Street pub would not be reopening but did not disclose the reason behind the decision.
The thieves made off with a three-figure sum of money and damaged the inside of the bar shortly after the doors were closed for the final time.
Ms Hill, who previously managed The Doghouse bar in Dundee, wrote: “It’s with a heavy heart we announce our closure.
“This already sad end was made bitter by a break-in on Sunday evening/Monday morning.
“If you saw anything, please get in touch.”
Ms Hill took over running the pub in February last year.
She said: “We have had an incredible time and loved every second of working the bar and restaurant.
“We truly hope the pub opens again soon so we can all enjoy a drink together.”
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police in Fife are currently investigating a report of a break-in to a pub in Tayport, which took place between 1.30am and 11am on Monday January 7.
“A three-figure sum was stolen and damage was caused to the inside of the premises.
“Anyone with information which may be relevant is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1191 of January 7 or report this anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
Several customers expressed their disappointment at the closure of the pub.
Heather Robertson posted: “Sorry to hear that Sarah. You met everyone with a big smile and such a cheery welcome.
“This will signal the end of the Bell Rock now I think.”
Jane Duffy added: “So sorry to hear what’s happened and absolutely gutted that you’ve closed.”
Ms Hill was manager of The Doghouse in Dundee in 2009 when the pub was closed down for non-payment of rates.
The closure of The Bell Rock Tavern comes just days after another popular community pub closed without warning.
The Crown Inn in Monifieth, run by the family of Euromillions winner Gillian Bayford-Deans, closed earlier this week.
