Scotland’s transport secretary has pledged to meet those pushing for a new Levenmouth rail link as the campaign continues to gather steam.
Michael Matheson made the commitment at Holyrood after Mid Scotland and Fife Labour MSP Alex Rowley asked the Scottish Government what progress has been made in advancing the case and funding for restoring the link to Levenmouth.
“Transport Scotland is leading the transport appraisal work for the Levenmouth Sustainable Transport Study in close collaboration with Fife Council,” Mr Matheson told MSPs.
“Findings from the transport appraisal work will identify if there is a rationale for progressing the Levenmouth rail link.
“The draft preliminary options appraisal report, which will include rail link options, is currently being reviewed by Transport Scotland and Fife Council.”
Mr Matheson added that the final stage of the process would be a detailed appraisal report, although the timescales on that depend on the outcome of other reports.
Mr Rowley welcomed the news, adding: “There is strong support from the community and there is a recognition of the opportunities this would bring, both economic and social.”
Mr Matheson said he recognised the cross-party support for the proposal and said the best options would be identified as work is taken forward.
