Newborn Richard Heatherill has inherited more than a name from his father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather.

Born at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, weighing a health 8lb 9oz, he became the fifth generation of Richard Heatherills, all of whom live in Glenrothes.

They got together for the first time this week for a family photo.

Baby Richard’s 43-year-old grandfather said he was “absolutely thrilled” his son, Richard and partner Chanel Reid had kept with tradition in naming their firstborn son.

He said: “That was the first thing he told me after he told me he was going to be a dad.

“He said ‘don’t worry, he’s going to be Richard if he’s a boy’.

“This is the first chance for us all to together as a family.”

Te newest Richard Hetherill, just six days old

Despite having so many Richards in the family, the Heatherills will not get too muddled up when calling them.

The eldest Richard, 89, is known as Dick, and the second eldest is Ricky, 63. Grandad and dad both answer to Titch and the new arrival is being called RJ, for Richard Junior.

His forebears are encouraging him to follow in his footsteps as a devoted Hearts fan.

Just six days old, the tot already has his own maroon shirt and his father Richard, 20, is looking forward to the day he can take him to see the Jambos in action for the first time at Tynecastle.

Grandfather Richard said: “He has already got his own wee Hearts strip with his name on the back.”
