Man attacked with crowbar and sword after peeing in friend’s cupboard

A teenager became angry when a drunken guest urinated in his cupboard and ran after him with a sword.

Darrin Reid chased his overnight guest into the street brandishing the sword and a crowbar, striking him with both.

Reid, 19, of Pittsburgh Road, Halbeath, appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He previously admitted that on March 15, at Pittsburgh Road, he assaulted Danny Smith by repeatedly pursuing him, striking him on the body with a sword and on the head with a crowbar.

He also admitted being unlawfully in possession of a sword.

Sheriff Charles MacNair agreed to delay sentencing again for a psychiatric report until April 17.

Depute fiscal Sarah Lumsden previously told the court the pair had been drinking and went back to Reid’s home.

Reid woke up at around 7.30am to find his friend was urinating in a cupboard and had also wet the bed they were sharing.

Reid grabbed the weapons and chased Mr Smith out of the house.

After being hit with the crowbar in the back garden, the victim, with blood on his face, jumped over a fence and shouted to a neighbour to call the police.

At one point, Reid hit Mr Smith with the sword, which broke on impact.

Defence solicitor Alexander Flett said: “They have been friends, although there have been ups and downs. It’s clearly a significant over-reaction.”
