A new organisation set up to help female migrants who have recently settled in Fife used International Women’s Day as a platform to welcome new members.
The International Women’s Forum, based in Kirkcaldy, was set up by Katarzyna Slawek and fellow volunteers from the Fife Migrants Forum.
Women were invited along to their hub at the Postings to find out more about the vital work and support services on offer which are tailored towards helping ladies.
Katarzyna said the aim was to offer a wide range of support and advice specifically tailored towards females in the region, many of whom are living alone.
She added: “Even though I’ve lived in Fife for the last 15 years I remember how daunting and difficult it is in a new country, faced with all the cultural, and legal differences.
“People come here for all sorts of reasons, some for work while others are fleeing war or persecution.
“Women, particularly, can quickly become isolated and we want to have an organisation that is there to support them at every turn.
“They may only need help in how to apply for a job or how to pay the rent, while for others it will be education about health matters or how to stay safe.
“Whatever it is we want to be there to help them.”
A group of empowered women from across the kingdom gathered outside the Mercat Shopping Centre in Kirkcaldy to stage a flash mob.
The group of dancers, which included ladies from Kinghorn, Glenrothes and Burntisland, performed the routine to the smash hit This Is Me by Keala Settle.
A further event to mark the special occasion will be held at the Rothes Halls in Glenrothes on Saturday between 10am and 4pm.
The free event will include talks, exhibitions, workshops and taster sessions all to celebrate the women of Fife.
